Cursed Monk Records are thrilled to announce that Limericks own TOOMS will be returning to Monk Fest this July 6th.
God damn I love this band! Heavy as Godzilla balls, and so much craic!
I remember the first time I saw TOOMS. It was at Walpurgis Night in Galway City in 2018. I was instantly blown away as they swayed effortlessly from spaced out stoner riffs to punishing blast beats. I offered to sign them the very next day.
And man I was over the moon when they said yes!
I released their debut album The Orb Offers Massive Signals in July 2020, which came out to critical acclaim, and sold out within weeks.
"TOOMS Paint Frightening Sludgescape On Sick New LP" - Doomed & Stoned
"...roll out the ol’ ‘Mission Accomplished’ banner" - The Obelisk
"A journey worth taking" - Wonderbox Metal
"Amazing" - Games, Brrraaains & A Head-Banging Life
Since then TOOMS have supported bands like Crowbar (not at the time of writing, but its this weekend, Feb 23rd, 2024), and Wolfbastard, toured England with Acid Throne, won the Metal 2 the Masses competition, played Bloodstock festival in England, and released a new EP called The Smeckening. As well as playing countless gigs around Ireland.
Alex, (Guitar and Vocals), as well as Eoghan (Bass, Slung From A Tree) and Emmett (From The Depths Metal Podcast), is also a founding member of Monk Fest.
Monk Fest was originally started as a fundraiser for my niece Aisling's medical bills after a terrible roadside accident which left her with a catastrophic brain injury.
Unfortunately Aisling passed away one week before Monk Fest 2022.
We made the the decision to press on with the event, and make it a yearly gathering to raise money for Temple Street Children's Hospital in Aisling's memory.
I was unable to make the first Monk Fest, but I am so grateful to lads for organising it, and the TOOMS lads for doing a one minute silence in Ash's memory. Not only that, but they captured this incredibly powerful moment on film. Never have I seen a clip that shows the decency and respect of the Irish metal scene better than this. You could hear a pin drop.
Odds are you are no stranger to TOOMS, but on the off chance you haven't heard them before, or seen them live, then get yourself to Monk Fest, and see why TOOMS are one of the best metal bands in Ireland.
Monk Fest 2024 will take place on July 6th. Tickets are available here. Monk Fest is in aid of Temple St. Children’s Hospital.
