Man are we looking forward to this! SMMÜTT's new album was one of those instant "I absolutely want to release this" moments! It is a tour de force and weird as all fuck!
There will be more on this album later in the year, but fo now let's find out about SSMMÜTT shall we?
SSMMÜTT is the shape-shifting musical project of producer and illustrator Robert Mirolo.
Defying easy categorization, their sound is a visceral alchemy of Doom, Kosmische, and Ambient textures, often collapsing into the crushing weight of blackened sludge.
The project is defined by a rare adaptability, appearing equally at home performing for a DIY punk collective beneath a bridge in Kaunas, Lithuania, as they are on the prestigious stage of Dublin’s National Concert Hall.
This grit was forged through years of relentless touring across Germany, the Netherlands, and the Balkans, culminating in a landmark two-week stint in Ukraine at the end of the 2022 lockdown.
In 2021, the project solidified its recorded legacy with the release of Black Pools - Red Dot and a collaborative split 7-inch with Phil Christie (of The Bonk) as part of the Signs of Life series, both released via the experimental imprint Moot Tapes.
By 2024, Mirolo relocated to Berlin, assembling a powerhouse new lineup featuring drummer Kev Sheridan alongside members of Go Mahhh, Cryer, and Sunfear.
This latest iteration has pivoted away from the traditional touring circuit to focus on specialized studio explorations, soundtracking for independent collaborators, and curated one-off events.
We will be bringing you more info on this later in the year. But in the mean time check out SSMMÜTT bringing the psych with a live jam at the German Ukraine culture program | ART residence in Kyiv 2021.
